More than one-third of the futures contracts in the world are traded in the Asia Region. New exchanges, new products, and a new demand for risk management tools are attracting significant interest from outside the region from exchanges, brokerage firms, hedge funds, proprietary traders, and institutional investors.
The Futures Industry Association, at the request of its members, is forming FIA Asia to improve knowledge about Asian markets, increase education about derivatives products, promote standardization and best practices among markets and, when appropriate, present a unified industry voice to market officials.
The FIA Asia region includes organizations in the Asia Pacific region from United Arab Emirates to Australia and New Zealand.
Supporting FCMs:
FIA Asia will seek to promote the further development of Asia-Pacific derivatives exchanges through the following activities:
- collect and disseminate information about exchanges, clearing organizations and regulators in the area;
- support the adoption of international standards and best practices in product design, exchange membership, clearing functions, market integrity and financial safety rules;
- work for better public understanding of the benefits of derivatives markets;
- encourage cross-border trading and improved access rights;
- present a unified industry voice to market officials;
- establish working groups to address specific industry issues; and
- promote cross-industry discussion through annual conferences and other events.
